Celebrating the Bicentennial of the War of 1812.

 

The Federated Garden Club of Maryland and the Crossroads at Hughesville Garden Club are sponsoring a Star Spangled Celebration of The Bicentennial of the War of 1812 on Saturday, August 30, 2014.

During the Battle of Baltimore in the War of 1812, Francis Scott Key penned his poem titled "Defense of Fort McHenry" that later became the lyrics for our national anthem, the Star-Spangled Banner. Activities at Saturday's celebration in Benedict, Maryland, will provide a glimpse into lfe during that period of our history.

This will be a busy weekend for Marylanders, with the Terps opening game at the University of Maryland in College Park and Navy at MIT Stadium in Baltimore, the Renaissance Festival in Crownsville, a visit by the Memphis Belle (a World War II B-17) in Baltimore, and countless local event including the annual Labor Day Festival at Sacred Heart Church in Bowie.
