Fort Meade - USNA - Andrews AFB: Crofton Maryland Gardeners Honor Wounded Soldiers

Crofton Maryland Gardeners Honor Wounded Soldiers

It's a November tradition for the Crofton Village Garden Club to make patriotic-themed floral arrangements for wounded soldiers and other patients. Each member makes two or three of them so we'll be sure to have enough for all 120 patients at the VA Rehab and Extended Care Facility in Baltimore, Maryland.

This is a very easy and inexpensive activity that your garden club, scout troop, office or other organization could easily duplicate, following the steps in this brief video. With 40 participants, it can be accomplished in an hour or less.

Please join us in thanking our wounded veterans in November and throughout the year.

Thanks for reminding us how fortunate we are and to reach out to others who may be going through a difficult time.  This reminds me of the awful tragedy that happened today in near by Ft Hood.

Margaret, What a wonderful tradition.  We owe so much to all our Veterans but especially those who were wounded protecting.  Freedom is not free!

What a perfect way to say thank you to our local troops.  Simple and easy to do and well worth the smiles they will bring.

Okay, the show is a little corny, but it does make for a visual "how to". LOL

This is, without a doubt, our favorite meeting of the year... even more than the spring field trip and two luncheons we enjoy so much.  Many widows of veterans and mothers/grandmothers of active duty military are among the members, so this project has a special meaning for everyone.

Cindy - Yes, the ladies who deliver these each year always have heart-warming stories to share.

Jesse - Fortunately, we have enough members, time and resources to make one for every patient.  A few are unable to have flowers in their rooms, and those are placed at nearby nurse's stations.

William - This is such an easy and inexpensive project, we can't imagine giving it up.

Debe - Thanks, you too!

Terry - The ladies who deliver them say that some of the recipients are literally brought to tears by this gesture.  Almost 'makes me wonder why we do it only once a year.

Joan - It is a great tradition!  We can't do enough to say "thank you"

Marchal - That is so true.  So many people take it for granted.  I sure don't, with a husband who served in Vietnam, a dad who served in WW II and a grandfather who served in WW I.

Aja - That is such a tragedy!  We can't begin to imagine what was going though that shooter's mind, or the depth of pain being felt by so many families today.

Margaret ~ Kind hearted you are. Thank you for spreading the word and time  for those that protect us.

Margaret...indeed... a great project, and looks pretty easy to use for any number of other events.

But, most worthwhile to remember those that have served for us!

Thanks for the share!

Margaret-What a beautiful tribute to military heros. Thanks for the reminder, especially so close to Veterans Day.

Monique - The ladies enjoy this project, and we hear that the recipients enjoy the fruits of our labor.

Thom - Easy and CHEAP.  And the club gets both the flowers and ribbon supplies at wholesale, so it's an affordable way to make 120 arrangements.

Michele - I used to live in Charleston, and I was a REALTOR with Bob Lane Realty there. At the time, they were the biggest company, with four offices.  As far as I can tell, they're not in business any more.  Love your photo... is that your team?
