No need to turn on the TV or radio any more to find out if Anne Arundel County schools are closing, opening late, or dismissing early when it snows. Just look for a text message or email.
That's how easy it is for parents and kids in 2010.
Just register on SchoolsOut.com to receive an email notice (free) or text message ($19.95/yr) and you'll never again have to camp out in front of the TV watching school notices crawl across the bottom of your screen.
The service is available for both Anne Arundel and Prince George's County public schools, and a number of private schools and day care facilities in Maryland, as well as schools in 20+ other states.

Hi Margaret... Technology is a great thing, but I wouldn't trade my memories of gathering around the TV or Radio with my mom and brother, listening to hear those magic words, "Stony Brook Elementary", for anything! :)
This is good info to have. Thanks for providing it.
That's cool! Thanks for sharing!
That's a great tip! Thanks for sharing and I'll check this out!
Haha, Steve... I hear yah! And folks can still find out the old fashioned way. I suspect many of them do.
Stacey-Ann - I only saw P.G. and Anne Arundel public schools. Too bad that more of them don't sign up for this service.
Carla - You're welcome.
Cheryl - 'Wish I'd known about it earlier, before all the snow. Not that there was any doubt school would close with 20+ inches over the weekend. It just would have been more timely.
GOOD AFTERNOON MARGARET! Things sure have come a long way -- I remember growing up and waiting and wondering if we would have to go to school (I grew up in Germany and it was more often than not that we got to miss school!)! It was always harder on my parents though who couldn't decide if they needed to go to work or not - and they sure could have used this! --Gabrielle
You know Margaret, I have an old typewriter (still very functional by the way) from my childhood days and I look at it now and it looks so odd. My grandchildren were in awe of it over Christmas. My grandson asked, "What's that!" more like an exclamation rather than a question. I think the day is coming that I will look at my laptop the same way. We can do so much now with a cell, well, smart phone. Technology can really be awesome. I am going to check to see if the schools here in the far reaches of the mountains are doing that. We may have a little catching up to do because I'm not sure they are.
Margaret, that's using technology to the max, no reason to sit in front of the TV news and wait for the scroll to figure out what to do. As for me I'll just roll over
Hi Margaret ! We have a similar site to go to in my area, and it is updated very well. Hope you are well !!!
Hi Margaret ~ I just checked and my state, Nevada, is not on the list. I think I will have to send an email to the school district to see if they would be interested in joining this web site. We have another big storm on its way right now and this would be very useful to many parents.
