Our family will be wearing navy blue tomorrow and cheering for the U.S. Naval Academy in their game against the Maryland Terps. It's a little different experience for us, since we're Maryland season ticket holders.
My
husband Larry is a retired Naval Officer and our family has lived near the U.S. Naval Academy for about 40 years. Given the sorry state of the Maryland football program (first 10-game losing season in history last year) and our affinity for Navy, we went out to get some new tee shirts for this game. There will be plenty of other opportunities later in the season for Terps attire.

Regardless of which team wins the season opener for both teams tomorrow, we won't complain. We might even be equal opportunity fans, finding reasons to cheer for both teams. It will be hard to break the Terps habit, even though we're dressing for Navy...
We're looking forward to all the pre-game pageantry, and promise to post some photos on Tuesday.
P.S. - We may have four tickets to sell for the Maryland game the following week, so contact me if you'd be interested in buying them. I guarantee you they're better seats than any you can buy at the box office or online.

Margaret - Looks like you guys will have lots of fun whether you are Navy or MD fans!
I've always liked Maryland- they won their Final Four in Atlanta, that I was fortunate enough to have tickets for a few years back.
It may not be my USAF, but I lean towards the service acadamies, all things being equal. Sure both teams will make you proud
Margaret,
Go NAVY!!
Bill
USNA '85
Navy and Duke, in my eyes even if they loose they win.
GO NAVY!
Do I hear the makings of a tailgate party? I have not been to one of those in forever.....in fact have not been to a college game in years!!!
Loreena, we're having a beautiful weekend, so any time outside activity will be fun
That was an awesome game, Scott. We watched it on TV in a local sports bar and the whole place went wild.
Liz and Bill - Beat Army! I mean, Beat Maryland! LOL.
Linda - I draw the line at Duke. We're fans of ABD - Anyone but Duke!
There is something special and pure about the service acadamies and sports. Go Navy!
This should be an exciting game. I hope you have a great labor day and enjoy the time off with your family!
Going to MD ourselves tomorrow, to spend 4 days in a condo in OC. A client of mine bought it this year.
As a proud Navy wife of over 21 years, all I can say is.... GO NAVY!!!! Have a wonderful time!
Simon - The pre-game pageantry of Maryland games is terrific, but nothing compared to the USNA. Can't wait. Then I have to sit through the game. LOL
Bill - Navy is favored over Maryland, so that's got to get their goat. Oh, wait, the goat is Navy's mascot... that's got to get their turtle!
Jeff - That should be so much fun! We're headed there next week for the Maryland Association of REALTOR Annual Conference. If you decide to go out for a drive, check out Ocean Pines... about 5 minutes west of Ocean City off Rt. 90. The beach house we just helped my brother re-hab is on the canal at 51 Moonshell (Facebook.com/51Moonshell) and they rent it weekly. Some GREAT investment buys down there that pay for themselves with season rentals and provide a get-away off-season!
Kathryn - Maryland wants this in-state rivalry, but they may be surprised at how many Terrapin fans also love Navy... This is probably a case of "be careful what you wish for..."
Got to watch about the last third on TV. Too many mistakes by Navy early... just can't fumble that many times. Loved seeing the coach go for it at the end rather than kick for a tie and OT... now if they could have gotten that last foot!
Did you take the Maryland terp atire along too? A great local game to have attended.
Are you passing on the Wake Forest game too? I may have a buyer for those tickets.
What a great game! Right down to the wire:)
Should have rooted for the Terps, Margaret. It was a great game!
You know, after being here for a few days, I am starting to see the wisdom of owning a condo in OC, Margaret...
Liz and Bill - 'Can't say for sure whether Navy gave the ball away or Maryland took it... Not that it matters. LOL. We weren't disappointed in the outcome, since we're Terps season ticket holders and every victory gets us one step closer to a bowl game. Gotta find time to get my photos off the camera and into my blog.
Ellie- We did wear our Terps hats with our Navy shirts. LOL. No, we'll be going to the Wake Forest game, as far as I know.
Aaron - You can take the Terps fan out of red, but you can really turn them into a fan for anyone else. We were a study in contradictions with our Navy shirts, red hats and cheering for both teams, depending on who did well in a play. LOL.
Jeff - My brother has purchased a couple of homes in Ocean Pines, including one on the water... his family goes down weekends off-season, and rents out the place all summer. Each year they take on a project. Everyone in the family participates - cousins and inlaws and siblings and children - it's really a great experience for everyone!
