Fort Meade - USNA - Andrews AFB: A Dead Body in the Bedroom!

A Dead Body in the Bedroom!

Neither Gale Kent of Coldwell Banker First United nor Linda Chabucos-Galow of Shorewest Realtors in Janesville, Wisconsin, are members of ActiveRain.  Too bad!  It would have been interesting to read their first-hand account of the events surrounding Linda's showing of Gale's listing last week - when prospective buyers Justin and Colleen McKeen found a dead body in the bedroom.

As a real estate professional, the widely-reported story motivates some questions:

How often do you communicate with your clients?   According to the coroner, the property owner had been dead in the bedroom for about two weeks.  I wonder...  if I tried to reach my client and he/she did not reply, would I go to the property to check and make sure everything is okay?   Hmmm... not sure...

Do you accompany your buyers when showing property?  According to newspaper reports, the showing agent was waiting in the dining room while her buyers looked at the house.  It was they who found the body and alerted their agent with a scream.   Since I despise hovering salespeople myself, I try not to be one when I show property, but perhaps I should reconsider and be at my client's side throughout the home tour...

It's not necessary for us to find "a dead body in the bedroom" to learn something from Gale and Linda's experience.

Margaret-  That is an amazing story !!  When I took the Real Estate course a classmate asked the question, "what happens if you find a dead person in the property?"  I thought she was joking.

I'm amazed that the poor homeowner was dead for so long without anyone knowing about it..How sad.

Finding a dead body, wow.  That over takes anything that has ever happened to me.  The said part is no one notice for 2 weeks.

This is a truly sad story. Sad in several ways. Can you imagine not being seen or heard from in two weeks and no one checks on you....

This is sad story.  I'm like you.  I don't like to hover too much, but I do walk with them through the house - staying a few feet behind them,  Of course if I found the dead body - I'd probably scream also!

I am late on my reading "catching up" but picked up a copy of The Long Island Press today in NY to read it....and it had a very short article about this!  They titled it "Haunted Open House" and didn't mention the names of the Realtors.  What a sad/awful story!
